It’s been a hot summer in most places in Europe, though I can’t blame the weather for my lack of green fingers. (The saying in German talks about green thumbs, but I don’t have them either.)
I’ll start off by mentioning the cut-price book – It’s Missing… Rose Malone, and it’s on a 99p Kindle Monthly Deal in the UK all month.
Back to the plants. We have two large balconies here, one north, one south, and I like to have ornamental grasses there, in variously sized tubs. They’re pretty hardy, those grasses. Usually. But I’m not sure I can blame the weather only for what’s been happening this year. The least said about the two below, the better, though one does still look vaguely decorative…
I’ve bought a nice new one, and along with another couple that are still limping along, we’re set for another few months. I hope.
And one I bought for a couple of francs in an end-of season-sale in Aldi a year or two ago has survived the summer pretty well. Best plant purchase this decade, that was.
The plant beside it is a “Königskerze” that seeded itself last year. They’re supposed to shoot up high at some point, but we’re still waiting for that.
Moving inside, my Swiss cheese plant collapsed flat on the floor one day, and refused to be uprighted. I put it into chair jail and called Son 2 to help repot, then stuck some broken bits in water to see if they root. We’re currently watching this space, but I’m hopeful.
So we’ll see what lives to tell another tale, and what doesn’t. I’ll have an update in a few months, if enough of them survive.
