I’ve spent a lot of time recently mulling over which direction I want to take with my writing. Getting the five Lakeside Hotel books ready for ebook publication, then organising the necessary promotion etcetera for them didn’t leave a lot of time for writing, and while I do have two works-in-progress, the decision about what, exactly, to do with them is still pending. I’ve tramped for miles around our lakeside area here trying to make up my mind. It’s not a bad place to think in.

One wip is psychological suspense, and this one’s at the stage where I can send to publishers, or have it professionally edited and self-publish. I’m not sure if I’ll do another suspense book after this one; I seem to be getting softer with my characters these days. On the one hand, maybe there’s enough bad stuff going on in the world without me adding to it, even in a story. On the other, getting lost in a book where bad stuff happens but the characters come out stronger in the end is a good thing for a lot of people, me included.
The second wip is women’s contemporary, the story of two women who are the same age, but at very different stages in their lives. It’s less feel-good than the Lakeside books but definitely more Melinda than Linda Huber. It’s half finished, and it’s huge fun to write, so that’s what I’m spending most of my writing time on at the moment.
And while I’m busy with that, others in my team (or rather, Melinda’s team) have started to prepare paperbacks of the Lakeside Hotel books. The first will be out this spring, with the rest following on as soon as they’re ready.

So while I still don’t know what the future holds for my writing, I’ll soon have five new books on my shelf, and I can’t wait! (And if anyone has any bright ideas about what I want to do with my wips, do wheel them in this direction…)
