Winter has arrived in N.E. Switzerland. By the middle of last week, a sugar-coating of snow was covering our local Alpstein mountains, and I went for a tramp above St Gallen with a friend.

Then yesterday (Saturday), we had the serious snow. 30cm plus fell on St Gallen, so the path we walked along will be impassable for a while. Even ‘down’ here by the lake, we have real, proper snow. Here are a couple of pics from the balcony, but as it’s currently -9°C outside I’ll wait for a bit to take the lake photos…

In cold bookish news, The Cold Cold Sea is in Amazon Prime UK at the moment, so prime people can download it for free for a few weeks. Then there’s Christmas at the Lakeside Hotel – they had snow in the book too, and not being wimps like me, they promptly held a snowman competition. Read all about a real Swiss Christmas – no Santa, but plenty of other festive cheer (and mulled wine).
I’ll leave you with a photo of a little tree we saw on Wednesday afternoon. I hope it isn’t completely buried in white stuff now…
