I took enough pics to keep the blog busy for months on end, but we’ll stop here. A trilogy of posts is enough. So – the final photos…
The streets around my hotel reminded me of the film Goodbye, Lenin! which came out in the early noughties. It’s about a young East German whose dedicated communist mother sees him in an anti-government demonstration, and falls into a coma after a heart attack. When she awakes, the wall is down and life has changed out of all recognition. But any excitement could be fatal for Mama – so Alex sets about recreating the world of the German Democratic Republic, to keep his (fortunately still bedridden) Mama safe…
Here’s the trailer:
And here are my pics:
The Friday of my week in Prague was Czech National Day. The city centre was buzzing – there was a parade plus march-past at the castle, and demos in town. The atmosphere was incredible, with locals and tourists mingling in their thousands under (mainly) sunny skies.
To finish off, a few odd Prague pics. I’m not sure what’s happening in this one…

We went to the zoo one day. It’s a good zoo; the animals are in roomy enclosures, not cages. Our problem was, while some of the info panels had brief English and German sections, a lot of them were in Czech only. Fair enough, we were the foreigners, but it’s an odd feeling when you’re surrounded by a language you don’t understand, and it’s not one English speakers experience often. Maybe we should.
And that was Prague. A beautiful, quirky, vibrant city – I can’t wait to go back!
