Standing in my living room this morning, I can see into three different countries. Switzerland, Germany, Austria. It’s fun, living in borderland. In summer we take the ferry across the lake to Friedreichshafen once or twice a month, to stroll along the promenade there, admiring the mountains back home in Switzerland. (We’re too close to admire them properly at home!) I’m not often in Austria, but Bregenz, with the wonderful outdoor opera each summer, is very special and definitely worth a visit. The stage is actually on the lake.
So borders, or lack of them – we can travel freely, without showing passports, from one country to the next – are definitely a theme in this part of the world.
And they’re a theme in my writing world too now, because after much discussion, we’ve decided to donate the profits made by The Saturday Secret to Doctors Without Borders. The ebook will be released on February 15th and will be on preorder on Amazon by the middle of this week, and the paperback will follow shortly afterwards.
In fact, I can have a double celebration on the 15th, because it’s the day my fourth book, Chosen Child, becomes available on audio. Oakhill Publishing are bringing out library editions on the 15th, followed a week or two later by the normal edition on Amazon and on Audible. The narrator is Meriel Scholfield, who did such a brilliant job on The Paradise Trees and The Cold Cold Sea.
Borders are also a theme for my fellow-Fabrian Books writer Jackie Ladbury, whose debut novel Air Guitar and Caviar is published today. Jackie will be on the blog at some point, talking about her path to publication. The book tells the story of Dylan, the street busker, and Scarlett, the air hostess with a past, and it’s on my kindle now – I can’t wait to get stuck in!
