Prague: John Lennon, the upside down horse, and Frank Kafka…

I spent a week in Prague recently, visiting Son 2 who is spending a semester at uni there. What an amazing city; I could blog all week and still not do it justice. So here are a few pics of some of the best bits of my week:

To start with, the lovely view over the Vlatva River:

One of the first places we visited was the John Lennon Peace Wall. John Lennon apparently never visited Prague, but since his death in the early 80s, this ever-changing wall has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti, and is a gathering place for students, tourists, and musicians, as well as graffiti-artists. And they have the John Lennon Pub just nearby.

Later, we were walking through an arcade, and saw this – Wencelas on his horse. It’s a parody of the more usual statue outside the National Museum.

Coffee time. With Bill Clinton and the Stones, and that’s the UK royal family on the right side wall there. I’m not sure if they all had coffee in the same restaurant or not…

This giant head of Franz Kafka rotates in all its layers. Every minute or so it comes together as a head – wish I’d thought to take a photo of the in-between state too!

Lunch, and a rare online photo of one of my children. These cones are made while you wait, and are very ‘Prague’ and very yummy. We had whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate in ours.

After all those calories, we thought we’d better do some walking. The views over the city on the way to the Petrin Tower are amazing.

And that was about the end of the first day. To be continued…
